AUDITIONS: Hyde, Dr. Jekyll, Hyde! (A Silly Melodrama)
Forget everything you know about Jekyll and Hyde… this isn't it! The Spotlight Playhouse is holding auditions for Hyde, Dr. Jekyll, Hyde, a laugh-out-loud melodrama loosely (very VERY loosely) inspired by the classic character.
Auditioners will cold read and should be comfortable with physical comedy, audience participation and interaction, thinking on their feet, and playing off live reactions in the moment.
This show runs approximately 2 hours (two acts, with 15 minute intermission)
Written by David Chapelle;
Directed by Joy Lady
Rehearsals will be EITHER Tuesdays at 7:30 or Wednesdays at 7:30, depending on availability of those cast. There will be space on the audition form to denote any conflicts or prior commitments.
PERFORMANCE DATES: January 15, 16, 17 & 22, 23, 2027
ROLES AVAILABLE:
Jon(athan) Marvel (~198 lines)
Dr. Jekyll's earnest, hardworking lab assistant. Jon is sincere, a little naive, and constantly baffled by his mentor's increasingly erratic behavior. He's the "reasonable” person opposite the chaos around him. Sparks fly (awkwardly) with Ivy.
Ivy Goodall (~206 lines)
The lovely, spirited, & quick-witted niece of Brigadier Hugh, who is not remotely interested in being married off to Dr. Jekyll or anyone else her uncle picks, but has eyes for Jon.
Muriel (~78 lines)
A brassy, streetwise Cockney woman who stumbles into the household after a run-in with Hyde and quickly becomes the resident blackmailer and comic wildcard.
Brigadier Hugh Huffin-Puffington (~51 lines)
A blustery, self-important retired military man. Hugh is pompous, easily flattered, and constantly outmaneuvered by everyone around him.
Jekyll/Hyde will be played by Matthew Ridout
