Synopsis:
This 1982 British comedy centers around John Smith, an "ordinary" London taxi driver who secretly has two wives in two different towns. When John inadvertently blows his own cover, the comic complications multiply.

Show Dates:
Fridays & Saturdays, September 11th, 12th, 18th, 19th, 25th, & 26th at 7:30pm
Sunday, September 20th at 2:00pm

Character descriptions (all with British accents):
JOHN SMITH - Male presenting (30s-60s)
Quick-witted and inventive, John is a taxi driver that seems very ordinary, except that he’s a bigamist. He should be a likable scoundrel. The role requires excellent comic timing and physical versatility.
MARY SMITH - Female presenting (20s-60s)
John’s wife. Mary appears in control initially, but a series of unexpected situations gradually throw her off-balance completely. Traditional, steadfast and practical. The role can be physically and vocally demanding as the actor needs to be able perform a whole gamut of emotions - charming to frustrated, dramatic to outraged and distraught with hysterics and screams.
BARBARA SMITH – Female presenting (20s-60s)
John’s second wife, happily married and unsuspecting (at first). Bohemian, alluring and somewhat ditzy. Like the character of Mary, Barbara requires good comic timing and physicality.
DETECTIVE SERGEANT TROUGHTON- Male presenting (30s-60s)
An earnest, severe, and somewhat intimidating police officer. Requires good vocal variety and the ability to be commanding physically and verbally.
DETECTIVE SERGEANT PORTERHOUSE - Male presenting (30s-60s)
Porterhouse is a seasoned police detective. Considerate and compassionate, his belief in the best in people can make him seem a little naïve and gullible. A little droll but bemused as well.
BOBBY FRANKLIN - Male presenting (20++)
Barbara’s neighbor, an excessively flamboyant dress designer, who has no shortage of charm and wit (with the occasional flair for the dramatic). A role that especially requires good comic timing.
STANLEY GARDNER - Male presenting (20s++)
John’s neighbor, who ends up getting dragged into John’s various deceitful machinations. Stanley may be brash and smart (yet lazy), but he is a good friend. The role is physically demanding, ideally with an actor comfortable with multiple British accents and characterizations.
