Auditions for "Lungs" at The Weekend Theater!
The world is getting hotter, there's unrest overseas, and one couple is thinking about having a child. Lungs is a smart, funny drama that follows them through the surprising lifecycle of a relationship as they grapple with family, hope, and the particular pain you can only cause the people you love.
Lungs is a two-person show and a test of an actor. There's no set, no props, and no costumes, just two people in an empty space. We're looking for actors who are disciplined, collaborative, and excited by table work. The rehearsal process will lean heavily on script analysis.
Lungs contains material and themes that are adult in nature. The material includes frank discussions of grief and loss, as well as portrayals of intimacy and sexual content.
CHARACTER BREAKDOWNS
W - Female presenting, mid 20s-30s,
Intelligent, anxious, relentlessly verbal. When M brings up the idea of a baby, her thoughts pour out faster than she can sort them. She deals with this anxiety through logic and planning. However, the events of the play keep surprising her, and those surprises force her to confront her fears and insecurities. She drives most of the momentum.
M - Male presenting, mid 20s-30s
Steadier and more easygoing, though just as anxious underneath. He treats big decisions as things he can undo later, and he raises the question of a child almost as casually as ordering dinner. He wants a calm life and loves a complicated woman. As the play progresses, he feels things he can't put into words and struggles to give her what she needs. He means well and is often out of his depth.
