About this Event

The Advanced Trauma Life Support® (ATLS®) program will teach you a systematic, concise approach for the care of a trauma patient. ATLS was developed by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Committee on Trauma (COT) and was first introduced in the US and abroad in 1980. Its courses provide you with a safe and reliable method for immediate management of injured patients. Day one will run from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and will include a course overview and skills stations. Day two will run from 7 to 10:30 a.m. and will consist of initial assessment and written testing.

Objectives:

  • Assess a patient's condition rapidly and accurately using a standard algorithm.
  • Recognize, prioritize and manage life-threatening injuries.
  • Determine whether the specific management needs exceed the resources of a facility and/or the capability of a clinician.
  • Promote effective teamwork, trauma-informed care, clear communication and injury prevention.

Class sizes are capped at 16 learners. This is a two-day course from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday and 7 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
