ASU Book Group: ‘MeXicana Roots and Routes’ edited by V. Fonseca-Chávez and A. Huizar-Hernández

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the ASU Book Group's September 2026 reading selection is the nonfiction collection, “MeXicana Roots and Routes: Listening to People, Places, and Pasts” edited by ASU scholars Vanessa Fonseca-Chávez (School of Applied Sciences and Arts) and Anita Huizar-Hernández (School of International Letters and Cultures and Hispanic Research Center).
Fonseca-Chávez is also an assistant vice provost at the ASU Polytechnic campus and Huizar-Hernández is associate director, publisher and managing editor of Bilingual Press | Editorial Bilingüe at the Hispanic Research Center.
The book group is open to all in the ASU community and meets monthly from noon to 1 p.m. in Hayden Library room 101 and online. Please register to attend.

Synopsis: In “MeXicana Roots and Routes,” established and emerging scholars draw upon their rootedness in the U.S. Southwest and U.S.-Mexico borderlands. The meXicana contributors use personal and scholarly inquiry to discuss what it means to cultivate spaces of belonging, navigate language policies, and explore and excavate silences in various spaces, among other important themes.
ASU students, faculty and staff can access an e-book copy of “MeXicana Roots and Routes” from the ASU Library.
