Asia Cine-Club: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring
🗓 Tuesday, August 25 | ⏰ Doors: 6PM | 🎬 Film: 8PM | 📍 TicTic, Phnom Penh
Directed by Kim Ki-duk, Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring is a nearly wordless fable set entirely on a small floating monastery in the middle of a remote mountain lake. Structured around the changing seasons, it follows a boy raised by an old monk from childhood through temptation, transgression, exile and eventual return, tracing one life's full cycle of innocence, desire, guilt and redemption.
Shot on a real floating set built specifically for the film, Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring became the highest-grossing Korean film in the US for over a decade after its release, introducing many Western audiences to Korean cinema for the first time. Its serene, painterly visual style, built almost entirely around natural light and sound, has made it a touchstone of contemplative world cinema, still regularly cited among the greatest South Korean films ever made.
