Ash to Glass: The World's Volcanic Wines
About this Event
Ash to Glass: The World's Volcanic Wines
Volcanoes don't just make dramatic scenery, they make some of the most electric wine on the planet. Ash, basalt, and mineral rich soil do something to grapevines that regular dirt simply can't, and once you taste the difference, you'll never think about terroir the same way again.
Mount Etna in Sicily is the poster child for this style, where vines grow in black volcanic soil on the slopes of an active volcano, producing reds with a smoky, almost electric intensity. But Etna is just the beginning. Santorini's ancient, ungrafted vines grow in pure volcanic ash and turn out whites with a saline, mineral snap you won't find anywhere else. Closer to home, Oregon's volcanic soils are quietly shaping some of the most sought after Pinot Noir in the country, while spots like the Canary Islands and Campania keep proving that volcanic wine is a global phenomenon, not a niche.
In this tasting class, we'll pour our way through a lineup of volcanic wines from around the world, though the exact bottles will be a surprise until the night of. Expect a mix that may include Sicily's Etna reds, Santorini's mineral driven whites, Oregon's volcanic Pinot, or other lesser known volcanic regions we're excited to introduce you to. Whatever ends up in your glass, we'll talk through why volcanic soil produces such distinctive wine: fast drainage, mineral richness, and vines that have to work hard for every drop of water, which is exactly what makes the results so intense.
Whether you're a newcomer or already deep into wine geekery, this class is built for real conversation, real curiosity, and zero pretension. Come taste what happens when wine grows somewhere it probably shouldn't, and leave with a whole new category of wine to chase down.
Spots are limited, grab yours before they're gone.
