Glimmer Globe Theatre is thrilled to announce open auditions for our upcoming summer production of Shakespeare’s hilarious and deeply romantic comedy, "As You Like It," running on Weds. and Thurs. from July 15 - August 13. This season, we’re offering housing to one of our lead performers, as well as stipends to the 14+ other actors who make up the ensemble. In-person auditions will be held March 26-29, and virtual audition options are available. Full details and sides can be found below! This summer, we’re bringing five acts of peace, love, and music to the shores of Otsego Lake! Set in upstate New York in 1969, this exciting new production sees the bucolic forest of Arden filled with hippie communes, wandering troubadours, and a wayward black bear, all on their way to attend the “Arden Festival,” modeled after the iconic Woodstock. This production will be directed by Michael Tamburrino and primarily be performed in Fenimore’s gorgeous lakeside Lucy B. Hamilton Amphitheater.
Rosalind and Orlando are lost in the world. Rosalind’s father has been sent into exile, while Orlando’s father has passed away, leaving him to be raised by his brutal, vindictive brother. At their first meeting, they fall hopelessly, desperately in love with one-another. After both are forced out by the tyrannical, unstable, Duke Frederick, they separately decide to flee into the nearby forest of Arden. There, Rosalind, alongside her witty cousin Celia and a mischievous fool named Touchstone, disguises herself as a boy to ensure her own protection. As both youths are hotly pursued, Rosalind finds herself in an ever-increasing tangle of romantic intrigue, and begins to teach a heartbroken Orlando a series of lessons in the art of love.
One non-union actor cast in the role of either Rosalind or Orlando will be offered a guest artist package, including housing at a local artists’ residency for the duration of the rehearsal process/run, as well as a stipend of $2000. Suggested sides and full details can be found at the links below.
The other roles in the production will be paid a stipend between $300-$600 dependent on line count. Suggested sides are provided for Rosalind, Orlando, Celia, Jaques, Oliver, Touchstone, Duke Frederick, Duke Senior, Audrey, Charles, Silvius, Phoebe, and more. Additional roles will be available in the ensemble. Inquiries can be directed to [email protected].

AVAILABLE ROLES:
Rosalind — Fem. presenting (approx. age 20-35)
Joyful, witty, and fiercely intelligent, the daughter of the deposed Duke Senior. Exiled and in a male disguise, she teaches a series of lessons in the art of love, unraveling a tangle of romantic confusion in the wilderness.
Orlando — Masc. presenting (approx. age 20-35)
Dashing, headstrong, romantic, prone to bravado and daring acts of physical prowess. After falling helplessly in love and falling out with his malevolent brother, he flees from his home to start a new life.
Jaques — Masc./Fem./N.B. presenting (approx. age 30+)
A deeply melancholy traveler, journeying to a destination unknown. Witty, self-deprecating, and painfully self-aware…
Celia — Fem. presenting (approx. age 20-35)
Smart, sassy, and fiercely loyal. Rosalind’s best friend, closest confidant, dispenser of wisdom and harsh advice. Falls in love with Oliver.
Oliver — Masc. presenting (approx. age 25-40)
Vindictive, brutal, and jealous older brother to Orlando. Has a softer, romantic side waiting to be unleashed. Falls in love with Celia.
Touchstone — Masc. presenting (approx. age 30+)
The local fool. In spite of his relentless taunting, games, and romantic escapades, one of the smartest members of the court.
Duke Senior — Masc. presenting (approx. age 45+)
Former head of state, currently in exile. Quite chill, peaceful, and easygoing (in spite of the circumstances). Has a deep connection with his companions and the natural world.
Duke Frederick — Masc. presenting (approx. age 45+)
Volatile, unstable, usurper of the court. Judgmental, changeable, and paranoid, he seeks to desperately control those around him.
Silvius/Silvia — Masc./Fem./N.B. presenting (approx. age 20-40)
A sweet, tender-hearted, lovesick shepherd. Deeply in love with Phoebe, who in spite of his devotion, is leaving his passions entirely unrequited.
Phoebe — Fem. presenting (approx. age 20-40)
Proud, self-sure shepherdess who continually denies Silvius’ professions of love. Absolutely melts in love when she meets Rosalind’s male alter ego, but can’t quite admit it to herself.
Audrey — Fem. presenting (approx. age 25+)
A country girl. Quite bawdy (perhaps a bit simple) and proud of her “foulness”, she falls in love with Touchstone the fool.
Adam — Masc. presenting (approx. age 55+)
The dedicated former servant of Orlando’s late father. Aged, devoted, generous, and kindly, he gives his retirement funds to Orlando, joining him in his flight to the forest.
Charles — Masc. presenting (approx. age 25-45)
An undefeated local wrestler. Quite scary.
Amiens/Hymen — Masc. presenting (approx. age 25+)
The musician in Duke Senior’s Camp. The rockstar headlining at the Arden music festival. Must be able to play the guitar.
Ensemble — Masc./Fem./N.B. presenting (approx. age 16+)
Several other smaller roles will be available for actors of a multitude of ages, gender expressions, etc. Includes shepherds, ex-boyfriends, hunters, a doddering priest, groupies and more.
