Με αφορμή την συμπλήρωση 225+1 χρόνων από τη θανάτωση του Ρήγα Βελεστινλή - Φεραίου, Σέρβοι και Έλληνες καλλιτέχνες καλέστηκαν να δημιουργήσουν αντλώντας έμπνευση από τον βίο, την πολιτεία και κυρίως από το όραμα του Ρήγα.

Η πρώτη έκθεση εγκαινιάστηκε στον εμβληματικό χώρο του Πύργου Νεμπόισα, στις όχθες του Σάββα ποταμού, στο Βελιγράδι, τόπο φυλάκισης, μαρτυρίου και θανάτωσης του Ρήγα από τους Οθωμανούς, με την υποστήριξη της Περιφέρειας Κεντρικής Μακεδονίας, του Ελληνικού Ιδρύματος Πολιτισμού Σερβίας και της Ελληνικής Πρεσβείας στο Βελιγράδι.
Ο Ρήγας εμπνέεται από τον ευρωπαϊκό Διαφωτισμό και τις ιδέες της Γαλλικής Επανάστασης και οραματίζεται τη δημιουργία μιας πολυεθνικής βαλκανικής επικράτειας που θα είναι απαλλαγμένη από τις αγκυλώσεις της οθωμανικής πολιτικής, που υπονομεύουν την οικονομική και πολιτική συγκρότηση των νέων κοινωνικών ομάδων, όπως αυτές διαμορφώνονται στην περιοχή κατά τα τέλη του 18ου αιώνα.
Aυτό τον ώθησε στη συγγραφή ή μετάφραση βιβλίων σε δημώδη γλώσσα και τη σύνταξη της Χάρτας, που τυπώθηκε το1797 σε 1220 αντίτυπα στο τυπογραφείο του J. Nitsch, σε δώδεκα φύλλα διαστάσεων περ. 70x50 εκ., με χαράκτη τον Franz Müller. Από αυτά σήμερα σώζονται 38 αντίτυπα στην Ελλάδα και 19 στον υπόλοιπο κόσμο, σε μεγάλες βιβλιοθήκες ή ιδιωτικές συλλογές.
Η Χάρτα καταλαμβάνει σημαντικό ρόλο στο σύνολο του εκπαιδευτικού και επαναστατικού έργου του μεγάλου εθνεγέρτη και αποτελεί το κορυφαίο επίτευγμα της λόγιας ελληνικής χαρτογραφίας του 17ου-18ου αι. Έχει μεγάλη καλλιτεχνική αξία, καθώς η ποιότητα του περιεχομένου είναι απαράμιλλη και η ίδια η εκτύπωση υψηλότατου επιπέδου. Δεν θα ήταν υπερβολή αν λέγαμε ότι η Χάρτα αποτελεί ένα από τα πρώτα δείγματα artist' book στη Νοτιανατολική Ευρώπη.
Αισθητικά τα έργα της παρούσας έκθεσης ακολουθούν την παράδοση του καλού, χειροποίητου βιβλίου του παρελθόντος, πριν από την εποχή της εκβιομηχάνισής του.
Οι πρόγονοι των εικαστικών βιβλίων όπως τα γνωρίζουμε σήμερα εμφανίστηκαν για πρώτη φορά στην Αγγλία την εποχή του William Blake (1757–1827).
Τα artists' books ολόκληρο τον 20ο αι. βρήκαν περίοπτη θέση σε όλα τα ευρωπαϊκά κινήματα της πρωτοπορίας. Τα συναντάμε και στα πρωτοποριακά κινήματα του ’60 σε Ευρώπη και Αμερική. Από το ξεκίνημα της δεκαετίας του '70 και μετά θεωρείται πλέον αυτόνομο είδος.

"Artists' Books _ Rigas Velestinlis (Feraios): A Great Order"
On the occasion of the completion of 225+1 years since the death of Rigas Velestinlis - Feraios, Serbian and Greek artists are invited to create by drawing inspiration from the life, the state and above all from the vision of Rigas.

The first exhibition was inagurated at the emblematic site of the Neboisa Tower, on the banks of the Savva River, in Belgrade, where Rigas was imprisoned, martyred and killed by the Ottomans, under the aegis of Perfecture of Central Macedonia and Hellenic Foundation for Culture of Serbia and the support of the Greek Embassy in Belgrade .
Rigas is inspired by the European Enlightenment and the ideas of the French Revolution and envisions the creation of a multi-ethnic Balkan territory that will be free from the rigidityof Ottoman politics, which undermine the economic and political formation of the new social groups, as they are formed in the region by the end of the 18th century.
This prompted him to write or translate books in the vernacular and to draft the Charta, which was printed in 1797 in 1220 copies at the printing house of J. Nitsch, on twelve sheets measuring approx. 70x50 cm, engraved by Franz Müller. Of these, 38 copies are preserved in Greece and 19 in the rest of the world, in large libraries or private collections.
The Charta occupies an important role in the entire educational and revolutionary work of the great revolutionist and is the top achievement of Greek cartography of the 17th-18th centuries. It has great artistic value, as the quality of the content is uniqueand the printing itself is of the highest standard. It would not be an exaggeration to say that Charta is one of the first examples of artist's books in Southeast Europe.
Aesthetically, the works in the present exhibition follow the tradition of the good, handmade book of the past, before the era of its industrialization.
The ancestors of artists'books as we know them today first appeared in England during the time of William Blake (1757–1827).
The artists' books throughout the 20th century found a prominent place in all the European avant-garde movements. We also meet them inthe avant-garde movements of the 60s in Europe and America. From the beginning of the 70s onwards it is now considered an autonomous species.
