Artist Talk: Nasir Young & Leah Triplett

On the occasion of Nasir Young’s current exhibition, Uffner & Liu is pleased to host an artist talk with Leah Triplett, Curator of Contemporary Art at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Leah Triplett is a curator and writer based in Philadelphia. She is currently Curator of Contemporary Art at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA), where she is co-organizing the 2026 reinstallation of the permanent collection (of 283 objects), including the reinterpretation and presentation of select artworks from 1960 to the present. Triplett has also spearheaded the return of the Morris Gallery, PAFA’s exhibition space for artists who have not previously had an institutional showcase. Exhibitions for PAFA include Kati Gegenheimer: We've Only Just Begun (2026), the East Coast presentation of William Villalongo: Myths & Migrations (2025), New Horizons: Recent Contemporary Acquisitions (2025), and Artists as Cultivators (2024). Previously, she was the curator for Boston’s Now + There, organizing thirty temporary, site-specific public artworks throughout the city and co-founding the Public Art Accelerator for emerging artists interested in bringing their work beyond the studio. She has also organized exhibitions for Boston University Gallery, Praise Shadows Art Gallery, Abigail Ogilvy Gallery, Trestle Gallery, the Herter Gallery, and others. Her writing has appeared in publications such as ArtAsiaPacific, ArtNet News, The Brooklyn Rail, C-Mag, Flash Art, Hyperallergic, Public Art Dialogue, and Sculpture. She taught critical writing in the painting and sculpture MFA programs at Boston University from 2021 to 2023. She is currently the Mary Ann Unger Estate Fellow, researching the artist’s work in the 1970s and 1980s. In 2025, she was a visiting curator in Dublin at Fire Station Artists' Studios.
Nasir Young (b. 1995, Philadelphia, PA) received his BFA from Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia, PA (2021) and is currently an MFA candidate at the University of Delaware, Newark, DE (2026). He has had recent solo exhibitions at Uffner & Liu, New York, NY (2026); Gross McCleaf Gallery, Philadelphia, PA (2025, 2024). Young’s work has been included in recent group exhibitions at Uffner & Liu, New York, NY (2025); Automat, Philadelphia, PA (2025); Fleisher Ollman Gallery, Philadelphia, PA (2025); Scroll, New York, NY (2025); and Gross McCleaf Gallery, Philadelphia, PA (2023). He is the recipient of several awards including The Louis & Estelle Pearson Memorial Prize for Landscape with Figures, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the Catherine Grant Memorial Prize, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. His work is included in the permanent collections of The Fellowship of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia, PA and the Woodmere Art Museum, Philadelphia, PA. Young currently lives and works in Newark, DE.
