This week's featured artist is Kevin M. Carroll!
Kevin is a surrealist illustrator with a focus on soft pastel drawings and oil paintings. His work stems from personal experiences with addiction and substance abuse impacting loved ones and our community. He has recently completed a community-informed set of 45 drawings depicting the 45% increase in drug-related overdose deaths in the state of Alaska, which will be on exhibit at the UA Museum of the North during the summer 2026. Kevin is currently working on an illustrated semi-autobiographical novel which combines his artwork, writing, and a musical album written from the perspective of the main character.
He thoroughly enjoys discussing color theory, soft pastel, and oil glazing methods! Visitors who prefer to read and talk will have the opportunity to engage with color theory resources and visitors who prefer to watch will have the opportunity to watch a demo of soft pastel drawing on various surfaces. He'll also have materials for visitors to make their own soft pastel stick to take home!
Kevin's oil paintings, pastel drawings and prints will be available for purchase.
