Art of the Fold: Smocking Design Workshop with Zayden Skipper
About this Event
Explore one of the most beautiful and time-honored techniques in sewing and embroidery: Smocking. Smocking is the art of gathering fabric into soft, controlled folds and securing those folds with decorative stitching. The result is a textured, slightly elastic surface that is both functional and highly ornamental—frequently seen on heirloom dresses, blouses, and historical garments where stretch, structure, and delicate detail meet.
What makes smocking so special is that it transforms a flat piece of fabric into something dimensional and sculptural. In this hands-on workshop led by Zayden Skipper at the Mood Fabrics Atlanta Showroom, you will learn how to prepare your fabric, mark and gather pleats, and work essential smocking stitches to create clean, professional, and intricate geometric designs.
