Some music just sounds like Christmas.
For generations, the music Vince Guaraldi created for A Charlie Brown Christmas has been part of the soundtrack of the holiday season. From the instantly recognizable opening of “Christmas Time Is Here” to the joyful swing of “Linus and Lucy,” Guaraldi created music that somehow feels nostalgic and timeless at the same time.
On Wednesday, December 16, Art Meets Jazz brings that music to the intimate setting of the Hunt Art Gallery and Beebe's on the Square with the Ed Croft Trio.
Led by bassist Ed Croft, a multiple JazzBuffalo Poll winner and nominee, the trio will revisit the music of Guaraldi and the beloved A Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack. Ed will be joined by pianist Ivan Docenko and drummer Wasik, bringing their own musical personalities to songs that have become holiday favorites.
And this has always been about more than simply playing the album from beginning to end.
Throughout the evening, Ed will share some of the stories behind Guaraldi, the music, and how this unlikely jazz soundtrack became such an enduring part of Christmas in America.
Before the trio takes the stage, we'll begin the evening with a special performance by Tina Williams-Croft.
A Buffalo singer-songwriter with more than two decades of performing experience, Tina draws from American roots music, blues, soul, and country. She'll bring her warm and personal style to a selection of favorites and holiday songs—a wonderful way to begin our December gathering.
Art Meets Jazz has always been about experiencing music a little differently. Surrounded by art, with friends gathering and the musicians only a few feet away, Beebe's offers just the kind of intimate setting this music deserves.
