Art Dialogues in conversation with Mia Weiner

Featured artist Mia Weiner joins Art Dialogues founder Anita Goes and co-curator Iara Pimenta for a conversation on her work, artistic journey, and approach to photography.

Mia Weiner (b. 1991, Chicago, US) completed her MFA in Fiber and Material Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2020 and a BFA in Fiber from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2013. She was awarded the V&A Parasol Prize by the Victoria & Albert Museum and Parasol Foundation, 2024. Responding to the historical textile, Mia creates personal narratives that explore identity, gender, and the intricacies of human connections. Each work is meticulously hand-woven in her Los Angeles studio. She has exhibited her work internationally including at the Fotomuseum Den Haag (Netherlands), Hastings Contemporary (UK), T293 (Rome), Eric Firestone Gallery (New York), Anat Ebgi (Los Angeles), The Hole (New York), Ochi Gallery (Los Angeles), Homecoming Gallery (Amsterdam), Vortic Gallery (London), Mama Projects (New York), Compound (Long Beach), Untitled Art Fair (Miami), Paris Photo (France), WHATIFTHEWORLD (Cape Town), and F2T (Milan). Her work has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times, New American Paintings, Coveteur, ARTnews, and The Artist News Paper. Weiner is a Yaddo Fellow and her work is in the permanent collection of the Kunstmuseum Den Haag, Netherlands.

Iara Pimenta is an independent curator and writer interested in the intersections of art and architecture. Her projects look at the relationships between history and transformations in the built environment and how artworks propose new perspectives on collective memories and imaginaries. She has researched and written about exhibitions, institutions, and the work of artists and architects, especially from the Americas.
