Art City August Receptions - InMotion, CASH ONLY, and solo exhibits
About this Event
OPENING: The Mind is a Seed the Heart Waters, solo show by Camilo Carreño-Gonzales
Explore Camilo's small format works that serve as a conduit for an intimate encounter between the artwork and the viewer, compelling them to approach closely and fully engage with the nuances. Carreño-Gonzalez's choice initially emerged as a rejection of the monumental. However, it has evolved into a celebration of the uncanny, the often disregarded, and the overlooked.
OPENING: Requiem Trio: HOLD-For The Constitution, solo installation by John Terdich
This installation considers the balance of power within our government. After John Terdich’s brother died in 1990, he created and exhibited the installation, Requiem Quartet: HOLD, as a memorial for him and other victims of AIDS. Alongside this multi-media installation, Terdich will also have on view the Pounce Pattern Series: Under the Surface. This series uses pounce patterns, a traditional drafting technique used by muralists, sign painters, and artisans, where a design is drawn on paper and then perforated by various methods.
OPENING: InMotion Group Show, with Movement Gyms
NEW Gallery is proud to announce a new group show hosted in partnership with Movement Gyms Lincoln Park: In Motion. Inspired by movement, the pleasures of physical activity, or the community forged through sport, the works featured in this exhibition reference Movement Gyms’ mission to create an inspiring and inclusive community.
CLOSING: Last chance to see CASH ONLY: An Ode to Dive Bars
This is a curated group exhibition featuring artwork celebrating Chicago’s beloved no-frills watering holes. From new takes on classic photobooth strips to transformations of beer cans into art, and even experimentations with neon light, this exhibition captures the spirit of Chicago’s dive bar culture.
