Armfield Slipway and Boatshed - Goolwa
Armfield Slipway and Boatshed was purchased by 1926 Herbert Alexander “Hookey” Armfield 1926 and the Armfield family continued a tradition of wooden boat building, repair and maintenance up until 1983.
In 1986, the Alexandrina Council purchased the site to preserve its historical importance. Since then, the slipway and boatshed have been operated by volunteers dedicated to maintaining traditional wooden boatbuilding skills. Over time, the site evolved into a “working museum,” restoring historic vessels, teaching traditional craftsmanship and supporting the biennial South Australian Wooden Boat Festival.
