Join us in Northwest Arkansas for our annual Fall Conference as we kickoff Dental Hygiene Month!

We are so excited for our meeting this year in Springdale, Arkansas! Come for Continuing Education Credits and stay for the Arkansas Razorbacks vs. Tennesse Volunteers Football game at Razorback Stadium on Saturday, October 5th! Up to 7 hours of CEUs can be obtained.


Our speakers are Lillian Caperila, RDH, BSDH, M.ED, FADHA and Sherri M. Lukes RDH, MS, FAADH.

Lil Caperila brings over 44 years of experience in the field of dental hygiene. Her career began as a licensed dental hygienist and was employed for 22 years in a highly preventive periodontal practice in Plymouth Meeting, PA. In 1993, Lil accepted a position as a full-time faculty Instructor in the Dental Hygiene Program at Harcum College, Bryn Mawr, PA, while completing her master’s degree in education at Penn State University. In 2000, she leveraged her experience as a teacher and periodontal co-therapist in securing a position as Manager of Professional Education and International Lecturer for Premier Dental Products Company. She has delivered over 750 seminars in countries of North America, Europe, Asia, and South Africa. Premier has afforded her the opportunity to guide the successful launch of many superior products through her technique in corporate training and recognizing innovations in dental hygiene practice. Lil is the 2010 recipient of the ADHA Irene Newman Award in Professional Excellence and served as Past President of the Pennsylvania Dental Hygienists’ Association in 1999-2000. In 2009, Lil was inducted into the Montgomery County Community College Hall of Fame. She was later recognized as one of the Fabulous Fifty Alumni during the college’s fiftieth anniversary.


<h4>Topic: The Changing Face of Dental Hygiene Practice: expert</h4><h4>clinician, skilled motivator, and preventive specialist</h4><h4>CEU: 3 hours</h4>

Course Description:

As we observe the reorganization of healthcare delivery throughout the world, the dental hygienist is now evolving into a key healthcare specialist. This program paves a new direction in specialized roles to include advanced clinicians, knowledgeable and effective motivators combined with recognizing that prevention is our only tool to optimal oral and general health. Each module of this course will focus on a changing dynamic in hygiene therapy introducing the latest technologies offered in today’s prevention strategies. Patients today are more informed of their options as they live longer and fuller lives. The participants will learn and share their ideas in exploring the skills necessary to become the dental hygienist of the next decade.

Objectives:

 Diagnostic instrumentation and utilization of risk assessments

 Motivational interviewing in guiding patient self-care

 Selective instrumentation in healthy versus compromised patients

 Transitions to minimally invasive procedures and elective cosmetics

 Capitalizing on your greatest skills in the healthcare team

 Reorganizing dental care delivery using all team members


Sherri M. Lukes, RDH, MS, FAADH, has been a dental hygienist for 43 years and holds advanced degrees ineducation. She is associate professor emerita, Southern Illinois University, where she taught oral pathology, public health and multicultural dental hygiene. Research was concentrated in migrant oral health, oral pathology and public health issues, resulting in multiple peer reviewed publications. Sherri enjoys integrating her years of experience into CE courses to empower dental professionals in the process of care. She is an approved speaker of and holds a pathology fellowship in the American Academy of Dental Hygiene, is a past president of the Illinois Dental Hygienists’ Association, and a member of the American Academy of Oral Medicine. Community service includes biannual, yearly trips to central/southern Mexico, delivering preventive care in an orphanage and remote villages. Honors include Community Service, Research, and Teacher of the Year awards while at SIU, IFLOSS Coalition/ Illinois Department of Public Health Oral Health ChampionAward, the Sunstar/RDH Award of Distinction, and the Western Society of Periodontology Speaker of theYear.

<h4>TOPIC: What Are We REALLY Looking For? – Oral Pathology Cases and Concepts</h4><h4>CEU: 3 hours</h4>

Instructional Objectives:

Upon completion of the session, participants will be able to:

1. Discuss the importance of current oral pathology knowledge when conducting intra/extra-oral exams.

2. Explain the etiology, clinical appearance and treatment options of various oral pathologic conditions.

3. Compare/contrast lesions that can be considered in a differential diagnosis for each pathologic entity.

4. Describe oral symptoms of various systemic conditions as presented in cases.

5. Discuss interdisciplinary collaboration for follow up care for patients presenting with oral signs of systemic disease.
