The April talk for Charleville Heritage Society will be delivered by local historian Owen Binchy, MA Local History, on Wednesday 16th April at the Charleville Park Hotel startng at 7.30pm. Owen’s subject will be on the Turrets area of Charleville, which is one of the oldest in the town.He will talk about the barracks, the cottages, and houses, including The Park, Knight's Lodge, Miss Herbert's house, Fort St. George, Ardmacree and Clonevin. For the cottages he will give details of the occupants, and the rents they paid at various dates during the twentieth century.
He will also identify where there was a turret and will refer to a field formerly known as the Turret Field. He will explain where the “Soldier's Pond, was,” and what was, and where is there a "benchmark" on The Turrets” to be found.
