Diamond Jim Green was born and raised on the south side of Chicago. His family moved frequently, spending time in Alabama, Georgia, Ohio, Kansas, and West Virginia. Over the years, he has performed in numerous blues band configurations, including with the Southern California-based acoustic group, the “Blues Ambassadors,” during the mid-1980s.
For the past 25 years, he has performed unplugged and solo, often collaborating with harmonica players, upright bassists, and occasionally with pianists and tubists. Some of his major influences include the late John Cephas with Phil Wiggins, the late John Jackson, the late Archie Edwards, Paul Geremia, Roy Bookbinder, and fellow Chicagoan, the late “Honeyboy” Edwards, all of whom he had the pleasure of meeting and playing with during the mid-1980s.
Since 1995, he has toured extensively throughout Europe, sharing the good news about acoustic blues on major festival stages in the U.S. and abroad. His performances include multiple appearances at the Chicago Blues Festival, the Long Beach Blues Festival, and several years at the International Blues Festival in Lucerne, Switzerland, among others. His instruments of choice are prewar National Steel guitars and 12-string guitars. "At most of my gigs, I play my Nationals plugged in or in front of an SM-57 microphone," he says. He has had the incredible opportunity to open shows for renowned artists such as James Cotton, Buddy Guy, the late Ike Turner, Otis Clay, the late Koko Taylor, John Hammond, Duke Robillard, the late John Cephas, the still-active Phil Wiggins, Saffire (the Uppity Blues Women), Sherman Robertson, Joe Louis Walker, Mississippi Heat, Lonnie Brooks, and many other well-established blues performers.

Opening the evenings show is Mark-n-Walt
Mark Groves and Walt Dabell (aka Mark.n.Walt) have been playing as a duo since early 2023. They deliver an engaging performance that showcases their unique blend of musical backgrounds and personalities and present a captivating repertoire of blues, rock, folk, americana, and more. Their dynamic playing style and mix of genres create a memorable musical experience.
Mark is from Elkton/Newark area. Beginning in the early 1960's, Mark played in the northern Delaware and Philly region with bands "Loose Goose" and later with "Johnny Neil," opening for acts like Joe Cocker at the Brandywine club, and Huey Lewis in Hartford, CT. Mark served a stint in the Merchant Marines during the Vietnam war. He toured overseas with the USO in the mid 70's and mid 90's. Mark ended up in the Miami, Florida area playing in a band called "Kidd," sometimes six sets per night, 7 nights per week. They opened for Al Green, The Monkeys and the Coasters, among others. His band eventually hit the road and ended up playing various venues across the south, stopping in Texas then California. Mark now makes his home in New Castle County. He considers himself a guitarist first, but also plays keyboard, bass and drums.
Walt is from the Eastern Shore of Maryland and has been playing locally since the mid 1970's. Walt met Lonnie Field and became a member of SandCreek in the mid 1980's. A week after they met, they were playing on stage together at The Peanut Room in Dover. Walt has been involved in the Delaware Friends of Folk since it formed. He has performed on stage for DEFF as a solo, and with bands Sandcreek, Shore Grass, The 3/4 Ton Band, and more recently as Mark.n.Walt.
Join Mark.n.Walt for this unique acoustic-ish musical journey.
