A ten week course exploring the relationship between anxiety and the body and how to use the body to overcome it.In this 10 week block of classes we will explore the relationship between the body and anxiety, incorporating stretches, primal movements and breathwork. I will also present some simple ideas about how to understand anxiety and how we can move past it using non-technical language. We will cover themes such as grounding, vulnerability, resistance and setting solid boundaries.
Whilst anxiety is very complex in terms of biology, neurochemistry and psychology, it can be very helpful to reduce this down to a simple, understandable model where unprocessed emotional energy in the body is clamped down and repressed by our overthinking mind. Bioenergetics exercises aim to gently increase the energy in our body by releasing tension in the muscles and fascia, and letting that energy come up gently and be processed. Somewhat akin to gently shaking a fizzy drink to get all the bubbles out!
You will also get some short 10 minute or so workouts to do at home daily.
This class is open to all and you don’t have to be particularly flexible or fit to take part.
