Monuments and glorification of genocide make it difficult for people to recognize and oppose genocide in the present. The United States of America unlike Germany or Cambodia has mythologized, venerated and glorified its genocidal history rather than reckoning with it Hence in almost every city and town monuments to those who committed genocide or enslaved exist where no monuments the the third Reich exist in Germany or to the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia.
Christopher Columbus's genocide against the Indigenous peoples of Turtle Island, specifically what's now called the Caribbean, was documents from Bartolomé de las Casas and the fact Columbus was brought home in chains. Columbus set the precedent that begat the Catholic Church deciding Native people lacked humanity in the Doctrine of Discovery and the subsequent Papal Bulls. The legacy of that genocide continues well into the 21st century across Turtle Island/Abya Yala to this day with Native Nations in North America still burying the children kidnapped and killed in so called Boarding Schools.
Its why the US can't condemn genocide whether it is in Palestine, Rwanda, Sudan or anywhere else, deep down it knows it continues to celebrate the genocide it participated in, gence affirming Congressional Medals of Honor to drunken US soldiers who bayonetted women, machine gunned youth and bashed the heads in of babies at Wounded Knee, Oglala Lakota Nation in 1890, the affirmation occurred in September 2025.
We call upon relatives, friends, supporters and human beings to join us on October 10th at Tampa's Columbus Statue Park to demand the statue honoring the half a planet lost syphillus infected genocider be removed and move to be clear that genocide is oppossed by human beings.
