Short talk presented by Dr Morvern French FSAScot: "Dirleton Castle Revisited"
Dirleton Castle in East Lothian is known as ‘one of Scotland’s greatest medieval castles’, but its post-medieval, post-habitation history is equally engaging. This paper will reveal the stories behind a recent interpretation project, looking beyond the main building to its grounds and the wider community and incorporating the gardens, antiquarianism, and alleged criminality.
About the speaker:
Morvern works as the Properties Historian for Historic Environment Scotland. She is a late medievalist by education and publication but, through her job, she researches and interprets different eras of Scotland’s history in relation to the HES estate. She is especially interested in women’s and other underrepresented histories. Morvern is also a trustee of the Society for Scottish Medieval and Renaissance Studies and the Scottish Historical Review Trust.
The AGM and talk will be followed by a drinks reception.
This will be a hybrid event which will take place both in Augustine United Church and online. Please keep an eye on the Society website, e-newsletters and your email inbox for the latest news and further information on Society events.
