Anjimile (ann-JIM-uh-lee) Chithambo is a Boston-based singer-songwriter whose work is defined by unflinching introspection, spiritual inquiry, and emotional clarity. Emerging from Boston’s indie scene while studying at Northeastern University, he quickly gained attention for his earnest songwriting, delicate sonic textures, and performances that balance intimacy with transcendence. His 2020 debut Giver Taker was met with widespread acclaim and named one of the year’s best albums by Rolling Stone, establishing Anjimile as a vital voice exploring themes of identity, faith, and liberation. With The King (2023), Anjimile deepened his examination of Black and trans existence amid personal and societal upheaval, reaffirming his commitment to navigating discomfort as a path toward freedom. His latest album, You’re Free to Go, builds on this foundation with a more expansive and open-hearted perspective, centring questions of love, trust, and release. Crafted over several years of transformation, the record traces moments of loss, renewal, and rediscovery, reflecting a renewed willingness to embrace connection and possibility.
Across You’re Free to Go, Anjimile balances lightness and gravity, pairing tender love songs with reflections on estrangement, resilience, and self-acceptance. Spirituality remains central to his practice; songwriting continues to function as a form of prayer, questioning, and communion. Produced by Brad Cook (Waxahatchee, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Mavis Staples), the album unfolds with an intuitive, organic warmth that contrasts the intensity of The King, revealing an artist increasingly at ease with vulnerability, joy, and grace.
Brotherkenzie is the solo output from Minneapolis producer and songwriter Nathan Stocker – and, through the project, lives in the shadows, operating on the outskirts of the music industry, something he’s grown increasingly less interested in as he ages. Brotherkenzie’s music is a chasm carved from honesty and earnestness, the result teetering between catchiness and pop, but with sharp edges.
