Animal Caregivers Wellness Retreat
Schedule
Sun Sep 22 2024 at 11:00 am to 04:00 pm
UTC-07:00Location
4077 Kamloops-Shuswap Rd, Thompson-Nicola, BC V2H, Canada | Kamloops, BC
Animal care workers (veterinarians, veterinary technicians and assistants), animal shelter/rescue workers, or animal protection workers) are all invited to this event.
The aim of this retreat is to promote wellness in animal care workers and to help combat compassion fatigue, burn out, and other mental health difficulties, which are far too common in these occupations.
Led by the sanctuary founder/executive director (who is also a Registered Psychologist), participants of this retreat will have an opportunity to learn about these important topics, connect with other animal care workers and some of the sanctuary residents, and experience some much needed rest and relaxation for an afternoon.
Retreat activities will include:
• Meet and greet
• Mental health and wellness presentation by Dr. Jaye Dueck
and catered vegan lunch (from The Art We Are Restaurant)
• A sanctuary walk to meet and interact with some of the
residents (and you can even try out Cow-Hugging Therapy!)
• Self-guided wellness activities (an opportunity to take some
extra time to rest and relax, practice wellness strategies, take
a nature walk to the upper property, and spend additional
time with the residents)
• Wellness planning and wrap up
A tax receiptable donation of $20 from each participant is requested to help cover the costs of the catered lunch. You can also nominate a participant for the retreat and cover the donation request on her/his behalf.
You can also support the Animal Caregivers Wellness Retreat by making a one-time or recurrent donation on our website as funds will be used for future and possibly regular retreats. https://edenswayfarmsanctuary.ca/donate/.
TO REGISTER FOR THE RETREAT, please email [email protected] by August 30, 2024 and please indicate “Animal Caregivers Wellness Retreat” in the message box.
Caring for animal care workers helps them better care for themselves and the animals they take care of!
**Please note that this retreat is not intended to provide or replace mental health therapy. All participants are encouraged to seek out mental health support/therapy if needed and community resources will be provided at the end of retreat.
