ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:
Learn to draw portraits from observation using charcoal, with a strong focus on achieving accuracy in both block-in and form modeling techniques. The initial day will be dedicated to mastering the fundamental visual tools for effectively blocking-in, where students will enhance their abilities in comparative measurement and shape recognition. This traditional academic approach serves as a foundation for honing essential skills that lead to greater precision in drawing.
As students progress to the form modeling stage, they will explore the conceptual principles of light interacting with form. They will learn to transcend purely visual observation, adopting a more conceptual way of seeing that deepens their understanding of three-dimensionality. Each student will adopt a strategic method of thought and process, developing a clear and organized approach to modeling the human form.
Throughout the three-day pose, participants will cultivate patience, focus, accuracy, and keen observational skills, culminating in a meticulously studied drawing. The instructor will provide demonstrations and personalized guidance, ensuring that each student receives tailored feedback. This course welcomes both beginners and experienced artists, offering a comprehensive learning experience for all skill levels. Students can expect to leave with a solid grasp of a systematic drawing approach and a deeper understanding of capturing the likeness of a portrait from life.
