andré douglas pond cummings | Attollo Professional Development Series
About this Event
Join us at Attollo HQ for a Professional Development Series session with andré douglas pond cummings, Dean and Professor of Law at Widener University Commonwealth Law School.
dean cummings brings one of the most distinctive careers in American legal academia to this session. Before becoming a law professor, he clerked for two chief judges — including Chief Judge Joseph W. Hatchett of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit — and practiced law at Kirkland & Ellis LLP in Chicago, where he handled complex mergers, acquisitions, and securities work while simultaneously representing NFL athletes, record labels, and Hollywood screenwriters.
Since entering the academy, he has published three books, contributed to law reviews at Washington University, Indiana, Tulane, Howard, and Harvard, and taught courses that range from Corporate Justice and Entertainment Law to Hip Hop and the American Constitution. Cornel West has said that cummings' scholarly reputation "is heard in every corner of the globe."
In this session, dean cummings will explore what it means to pursue a career rooted in justice, how law intersects with culture and community, and what scholars need to understand about navigating systems — and changing them.
