Tenor saxophonist and bandleader Andrew Greenwood has become a true mainstay of the West Coast jazz scene, collaborating on a wide range of projects spanning straight-ahead jazz, contemporary funk, and soul. After studying jazz at the prestigious Humber College of Music in Toronto, Andrew returned to his hometown of Victoria, where he has been deeply involved in many of the city’s most exciting jazz and jazz-inspired fusion projects. These include The New Groovement, Downtown Mischief, and the RH Factor Tribute Band, celebrating the fusion style of the late trumpeter Roy Hargrove. Andrew has also led and contributed to numerous projects paying homage to the greats of jazz saxophone — including Dexter Gordon, Stanley Turrentine, Wayne Shorter, and more.
In this exciting evening, Andrew Greenwood honours the legendary Dexter Gordon with an all-star quintet, bringing together pianist Brent Jarvis, bassist Louis Rudner, drummer John Lee, and special guest trumpeter Daniel Lapp.
Daniel Lapp is a beloved and iconic figure in Canadian music. Known for his remarkable versatility, Daniel has made an enduring impact across fiddle music, choral music, jazz, and beyond. A renowned performer and cherished voice on the West Coast, we are thrilled to welcome him to this special concert.
This promises to be a night to remember — rich in groove, soul, and classic jazz spirit.
