"The Trick is the Treat" with Julie Porter: October 27-30, 2026

Julie Porter of Farmhouse Cottons began quilting as a young mom, learning from primitive quilters and drawing inspiration from the simple quilts of the past. With over 20 years of longarm experience, she launched her pattern company, Farmhouse Cottons, in 2015. Her designs have been featured in Quilt Mania, Simply Vintage, and Primitive Quilts & Projects magazines.

Julie has been teaching quilting for more than 15 years, sharing her distinctive style and love of traditional techniques with students across the country and around the world. She finds great joy in inspiring others to create, connect, and build lasting friendships through quilting. Her classes are known for their welcoming atmosphere, laughter, and encouragement.

This year, Julie returns to Missouri Star to teach the timeless Dresden Quilt Pattern, guiding attendees step-by-step as they create beautiful blocks while enjoying fellowship, creativity, and plenty of stitching time together.

What to Expect From MSQC:

Sleeping Rooms - 10 rooms are upstairs and are shared - there are no private rooms available and a chair lift is available for assistance. There are two ADA rooms available upon request.

Meals - Please note that lunches will no longer be provided during our regular retreats.

For Early Bird Arrivals:

• Monday evening: A light dinner will be served.
• Tuesday morning: Enjoy a continental breakfast.

For All Guests:

• Tuesday evening: Dinner will be served.
• Wednesday & Thursday: Continental breakfast and dinner will be provided.
• Friday morning: A hot farewell breakfast awaits before your departure!

Snacks - We set out a snack table - because sewing definitely makes us all snack-y. We provide light snacks for the group but if there is something particular you crave, feel free to bring it.

Sewing Table Seating - We do have assigned seating for the well-lit 4' sewing tables (personal sewing lamps are optional). If you are traveling with a friend or friends and would like to sit together - no problem! Please just indicate this on your registration form with the names of the people you wish to sit by. We also provide cutting/ironing tables, irons and power strips and small side tables.

Sewing Machines -

• Feel free to bring your own machine (and all cords!).
• Alternatively, reserve one of our machines for the duration of your stay, free of charge.
• If you need a rental machine, please indicate this on your registration form.

We know things happen, but if for some reason you need to cancel after you have booked your reservation, please let us know as soon as possible. The retreat is only fully refundable 60 days in advance of the start date. In the event that you are past the 60-day notice and are unable to attend, you may transfer your reservation to someone else or move to another retreat at a later date.
