Join us for, "Remember the Ladies: A History of American Women in Song," performed by Linda Russell & Companie in the Crispell Memorial French Church.
This show highlights the role of women in America from the 18th century to the 19th amendment as seen in popular song. Accompanied by mountain and hammered dulcimers, flute, and guitar, Linda Russell & Companie sing broadsides, laments, work songs, love songs, parlor melodies, and suffrage anthems. The songs reflect the changing status of women in society. The trio intersperses the music with excerpts from women's diaries and letters. Included are stories of Deborah Samson, who fought as a soldier in Washington's army, and women such as Elisabeth Cady Stanton from Johnstown, NY and Alice Paul from Mount Laurel, NJ - who led the fight for Women's Suffrage.
