A lecture delivered by Professor Jonathan Michie on inclusive growth, regional development and the future of enterprise.
About this Event

The Robert Oakeshott Lecture is one of the UK's leading annual public lectures on employee ownership, bringing together influential thinkers to explore the future of business, work and the economy.

In this year's lecture, Good Growth in Every Postcode: The Role of Employee Ownership, Professor Michie will analyse the long-standing challenges facing the UK economy, including the global pressures; how these challenges can be met, where possible in ways that transform those challenges into opportunities to open up a more socially and environmentally sustainable path ahead; and what role employee ownership might play in bringing about that transformation, for a more resilient economy, rewarding work, social cohesion, and individual wellbeing.

Established by the Employee Ownership Association in memory of Robert Oakeshott, the lecture brings together internationally recognised leaders from business, government and academia to explore the future of ownership, work and the economy. The 2026 lecture is generously sponsored by European law firm Fieldfisher, a longstanding champion of employee ownership.

This event will be of particular interest to business leaders, entrepreneurs, employee-owned organisations, policymakers, economists, legal and financial professionals, researchers, students, and anyone interested in the future of work, responsible business and economic renewal. It will also appeal to those with an interest in regional development, social enterprise, corporate governance and creating a more inclusive economy.

The lecture will be preceded by tea and coffee from 5.30pm, and followed by an opportunity for questions and discussion.
