Join Pat Salmon and the Friends of Olmsted-Beil House as we “Celebrate the Life of Carlton Beil” on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 6 PM at Saint Alban’s Episcopal Church.During his early teen years Carlton was introduced to William T. Davis, Charles W. Leng and the Staten Island Institute of Arts and Sciences. His avid interest in nature was thus mentored and encouraged. For the rest of his life Carlton was fascinated by all things related to nature, especially Native Americans and geology. There are many alive today who remember Carlton creating fire the Lenape way.
Carlton would be named Science Curator at the Institute, and he would run the Education Department at the American Museum of Natural History. In retirement he served as a naturalist at the William T. Davis Wildlife Refuge, Clay Pit Ponds State Park, and other sites. Carlton also worked to preserve historic houses, including the Olmsted-Beil House.
Our discussion and slide show will be followed by shared memories from Carlotta Beil-DeFillo, Tina Kaasmann, Cliff Hagen and other friends, family and admirers.
Register at [email protected] or text 917-608-6437. Saint Alban’s Episcopal Church is located at 76 Saint Alban’s Place in Eltingville. The program is free of charge but donations to the Friends of Olmsted-Beil House are welcome. Saint Alban's supports the South Shore Food Pantry. We will be accepting non-perishable food items especially protein rich foods like canned tuna and chicken, peanut and other nut butters. Image: Carlton Beil. Photo by Dith Pran. New York Times.
