Free and open to the public. There will be a reception at 5 P.M. in Parker Pavilion.Musician Jon Batiste is at the peak of his musical career and about to embark on his most ambitious project yet—composing an original symphony for a concert at Carnegie Hall. He will soon win five Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year for 2022. Behind the veneer of seemingly boundless positivity and exuberance he projects, however, Batiste is perilously close to “cracking.” His wife—best-selling author Suleika Jaouad – has just learned that her long-dormant cancer has returned and faces months of intensive treatment. And Batiste, himself, is riven by anxiety and creeping self-doubt that manifest in the form of panic attacks. On some days, he struggles to even get out of bed. American Symphony offers an intimate portrait of these two artists, while underscoring the healing power of love and the creative arts. 1 hour, 44 minutes
