AND Creative Film Club (August) - a Kim Merced Garland Film Retrospective
About this Event
Come join us at AND Creative Studio for a night filled with cinematic magic. Our film club is the perfect place for movie enthusiasts to gather, watch, and discuss films together. Whether you're a casual movie-goer or a die-hard cinephile, this event is for you!
What to Expect
Curated by our resident film nerds: Each month brings a carefully selected gem from the world of cinema's hidden corners. Think surrealist masterpieces, haunting silent films with live musical accompaniment, and underground treasures that challenge perspectives and expand minds.
The evening unfolds as more than just a screening. Arrive early for pre-film discussions where our curators share insights and context. After the credits roll, dive deeper into post-screening conversations that explore themes, techniques, and the lasting impact of these remarkable works.
Of course, no proper film night is complete without snacks and sips to fuel the experience and discussions.

A Note From the Curator Peri Lewnes:
It is my great pleasure to introduce you to one of my favorite independent filmmakers: Kim Merced Garland.
I met Kim in 2012 at the Flyway Film Festival in Pepin, Wisconsin where she won Best Narrative Short Film for “VIVIENNE AGAIN.”
“VIVIENNE AGAIN” is the first film in her “Resurrection Trilogy” which we will be screening at AND Film Club on Friday, August 28th!
The Resurrection Trilogy which incudes “DEAL TRAVIS IN” and “THE END OF MARA,” will screen with her highly praised horror short “BODY IMAGE”.
Kim went on to write for SYFY’s groundbreaking horror series CHUCKY and Netflix’s Top 10 sci-fi/fantasy show THE IMPERFECTS. She was selected as a fellow for the prestigious The Black List x Women in Film Episodic Lab in 2019 and as a rising director in the 2024 Women in Film Directing Fellowship.
Originally from New York City, of Puerto Rican descent, Kim grew up above her family’s Hell’s Kitchen funeral home (picture SIX FEET UNDER in DAREDEVIL's Neighborhood) She worked her way through college covering the night shift at her family’s business and graduated from Columbia University with a B.A. in Creative Writing.
Kim is a lifelong fan of genre film and TV with a particular love for Horror, Sci-Fi, and Thrillers.
On Friday, we will also screen some “behind the scenes” vignettes from her productions to give you a peek at her creative process and best of all, Kim will appear at screening the via Zoom for a live audience Q&A!
As usual we will be discussing the film afterward.
We look forward to seeing you at AND Film Club!
