Experience stories of the North through a different kind of book club, one where the setting is the gallery itself. The Anchorage Museum Book Club meets quarterly to read and reflect on books that deepen our understanding of the Circumpolar North. Each selection connects to museum exhibitions or collections, and each discussion takes place in the gallery most aligned with the book’s themes.This month’s book is Two Old Women: An Alaskan Legend of Betrayal, Courage and Survival by Velma Wallis. Based on an Athabascan legend, this book tells the story of two elderly women abandoned by their tribe and their story of survival.
This free, public program is open to anyone. No need to attend every session, just register for the dates that interest you. Space is limited to 15 participants per meeting. While we don’t serve snacks (we’re in the galleries), each discussion includes a mini tour of related objects led by museum staff, making the experience especially tied to place.
4 p.m. Saturday, May 23, meet in Lobby. Recommended for adults. Included with admission; registration required.
