OPENING REMARKS AND WELCOME AT 6:15PM

You can choose one or two of five available workshops for the evening...

WORKSHOP OPTIONS FROM STARTING AT 6:30PM

*Understanding and Supporting Behaviour Through a Neuroscience and Attachment-Based Lens (note that this workshop is for the full 2hrs)

Join local Trainer/Parent Coach Joanne Boyd for a dynamic workshop, where we will shift our lens from managing challenging behaviours to understanding and supporting the hidden needs beneath them. We will reflect on our own implicit biases, triggers, and the impact of stress on both adults and children. The workshop will explore children's attachment, sensory, and movement needs, and how caring adults can support them through co-regulation and empathetic responses. Suitable for parents/caregivers supporting children aged 3 to 12 years old.

*Equity for All Abilities: Building Inclusive Schools

As parents, we all want our children to thrive in a school environment that celebrates their strengths and supports their unique needs. But what happens when assumptions and biases about abilities create barriers for students? Join us for an eye-opening session on Equity for All Abilities, where we’ll explore how ability bias affects students with diverse learning and physical needs. Through interactive activities and real-life examples, you'll gain a deeper understanding of how biases, even when unintentional, can shape school experiences and limit opportunities for students.
This session will provide practical strategies to support an inclusive learning environment, empower your child, and challenge assumptions around abilities. Whether your child has a visible or invisible disability, or if you simply want to ensure your school is truly inclusive, this session will equip you with the tools to be a stronger advocate.
Let’s come together to create a school community where every child’s abilities are celebrated, and no one is left behind. Don't miss this opportunity to learn, reflect, and take action for a more inclusive future!

*Oral Language Development and Literacy

This information session will explain the various components of communication and touch on the challenges that may present in these areas. The crucial link between oral language and literacy will be examined, and practical suggestions will be provided for increasing children's communication skills.

WORKSHOP ONE OPTIONS STARTING AT 7:45PM

*Positive Behaviour Supports

This informative session will provide parents with practical strategies and insights on Positive Behaviour Supports (PBS) tailored for students with special education needs. Learn how PBS focuses on understanding and addressing the underlying causes of challenging behaviours, promoting positive interactions, and creating a supportive learning environment. Discover effective techniques to encourage desired behaviours, prevent problem behaviours, and foster a positive school experience for your child.

*Empower your child with Assistive Technology Tools

Come and learn about the many ways in which assistive technology can support your child. In this session, we will highlight accessible tools via the Student Portal and demonstrate built-in Chromebook accessibility features and Google Read & Write. We will look at how to get the most out of these tools in order to promote independence and empower your child in the classroom and beyond!
