Greenlight celebrates the work of New York indie publisher Trouser Press Books, featuring three of their authors and new releases from this summer and fall! Upholding the zeal for music journalism that inspired the legendary Trouser Press magazine, "one of the greatest music magazines in history" (Variety)—Trouser Press publishes memoirs, histories, anthologies and fiction about music.
Our featured authors include acclaimed music journalist Mitchell Cohen, author of Wake Me, Shake Me: New York City, the '60s & the Pop-Rock Youthquake, chronicling the time in NYC when folk, R&B, rock and roll, blues, girl groups and Brill Building pop produced a wealth of great artists and records; Ira Robbins, co-founder of Trouser Press, Editorial Director of Trouser Press Books, and editor of Zip It Up! Too: More of the Best of Trouser Press Magazine 1974-1984, an enthusiastic, in-depth compilation of articles on classic rock to new wave and beyond, including all of the magazine's "autodiscographies" as well as a previously uncollected Ramones piece by legendary rock writer Lester Bangs; and music and cultural journalist Tim Sommer, author of Dispatches From the Kingdom of Outsiders: Writing on Music, Culture and More 1979-2025, an essay collection that fervently challenges conventional beliefs about rock and explores how left-of-the-dial music in the '80s turned a generation of awkward loners into a cultural community. Cohen, Robbins, and Sommer read and discuss their books with music journalist and podcaster Amy Linden, before an audience Q&A and signing!
