The City Museum is thrilled to welcome bestselling author Patrick Bringley to Juneau. Bringley’s memoir, All the Beauty in the World, was the inspiration for the exhibition at the City Museum titled Slow Beauty. On July 10th, Bringley will present on his experience working as a guard in the Metropolitan Museum of Art as documented in his memoir.
Patrick Bringley is the New York Times bestselling author of All the Beauty in the World, a memoir about his decade working as a guard at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Named one of the best books of the year by the New York Public Library, the Financial Times, Audible, the Sunday Times (London), and others, the book has resonated globally, with translated editions from Brazil to Ukraine to South Korea, where it became a number one national bestseller. Patrick starred in an Off-Broadway production of All the Beauty in the World, a “spellbinding” (the Wall Street Journal) solo play he adapted from his book, and has spoken at institutions around the world, including the National Gallery of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Dallas Museum of Art, the University of Virginia, and venues in Dubai, London, Oxford, and Seoul. Patrick has been featured in The New Yorker, The New York Times, and The Guardian, and has appeared on CBS, ABC, Fox, NPR, and the BBC. He lives with his wife and children in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.
This program was made possible with funding through the Friends of the Juneau Douglas City Museum and Juneau Community Foundation’s Blackwell Fund. Special thanks to UAS, Coastal Helicopters, Alaska's Capital Inn, and Jayleen's Alaska for supporting Patrick Bringley’s first visit to Alaska.
“As rich in moving insights as the Met is in treasures, All the Beauty in the World reminds us of the importance of learning not “about art, but from it.” This is art appreciation at a profound level.” — NPR
