About this Event
Miri Izenberg is a senior at the Orange County School of the Arts, where she is a member of both jazz and classical groups. A jazz vocalist and trumpet player, Miri has earned national recognition, including soloist awards from DownBeat magazine and the Essentially Ellington Festival at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Miri studies trumpet with Willie Murillo and John Reynolds, and voice with Lia Booth. She is inspired by both classic and modern jazz vocalists, like Carmen McRae, Ella Fitzgerald, Jazzmeia Horn and Cécile McLorin Salvant. She seeks above all else to innovate and connect with others through her music.
Emmet Althoen is a sophomore at the Orange County School of the Arts, where he plays in their Ambassador Jazz Orchestra directed by John Reynolds. He has been playing piano since he was 5 years old, and currently studies with Jeremy Siskind. Emmet is inspired largely by the free jazz movement and artists like Ornette Coleman and Paul Bley, who seamlessly mix beautiful sounds with forward-thinking improvisation. He hopes to pursue a musical career as an instrumentalist, composer, and arranger.
Miri and Emmet met as members of OCSA’s Ambassador Jazz Orchestra and enjoy trading tunes and sharing inspirations. They look forward to bringing their duo collaboration to The Sanctuary Studio audience!
