Join Scottish short story author Colette Paulas she discusses her new book A Complete Success – a collection that wryly and intimately captures the isolation and miscommunication of middle age, the resonating impact of childhood failures, and the unshakable, untranslatable nature of the past. Paul’s unfailingly compassionate portraits of the complexity of modern Scottish life is a charged convergence of Raymond Carver and Ali Smith. She will be in conversation with Associate Processor Tory Young.
About the author
Colette Paul was born in Glasgow. She is the author of Whoever You Choose to Love, which was serialized on BBC Radio 4 and shortlisted for The Spirit of Scotland Awards. She is the winner of the 2005 Tom-Gallon/Royal Society of Authors Prize, and her work has appeared in several anthologies and magazines, including Mslexia, Edinburgh Review, Stand, and Litro. She lives in Cambridge.
Dr Tory Young is an Associate Professor of English Literature and Course Leader for the MA: English Literature. She teaches 20th and 21st-century literature and has additional research interests in feminist and queer theories of narrative, life-writing, Writing and Wellbeing, and Writing in the Disciplines.
