Camsail October talk: Cathy Shelbourne: 'The Riddle of the Sands'
About this Event
Camsail October Talk
Join us in person for an exciting evening with maritime historian Cathy Shelbourne as she dives into the life and connection of writer Erskine Childers with her family and Cambridgeshire. Cathy will trace Erskine’s career from sailor to spy to author of one of the most famous sailing stories of all time, ‘The Riddle of the Sands’, set in the shifting sands of the German Frisian Islands before the outbreak of the First World War. It's a perfect chance to explore this classic adventure tale, share stories, and meet fellow fans. Don't miss out on this relaxed and fun gathering—see you there!
CAMSAIL is a sailing club which meets monthly from October to March to enjoy a wide range of talks by members and invited speakers, and an opportunity to socialise in a nautical atmosphere (albeit in central Cambridge!). There is an annual subscription (at present £20, to cover the cost of the venue and speakers’ expenses), but those new to us are welcome to attend one meeting without charge or any commitment to join.
Advanced booking is not required.
