The Outer Banks History Center, Manteo Preservation Trust, and Downtown Books invite the public to a special discussion and reception in honor of the reissue of Manteo: A Roanoke Island Town, the seminal history of Manteo by local author Angel Khoury. This event will celebrate the rich history of Manteo and its captivating past, providing an opportunity to explore the significance of the town's development.
The event will take place from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, February 6, at Veterans Hall, College of the Albemarle campus at 205 64 East (the main highway) in Manteo. The evening will feature a discussion with Angel Khoury, followed by a reception where attendees can mingle, enjoy refreshments, and purchase a signed copy of the book.
A 45-year resident of the Outer Banks, Khoury lives on Roanoke Island. In addition to Manteo: A Roanoke Island Town first published 25 years ago, she is author of the novel Between Tides, set in Manteo and on Cape Hatteras and Cape Cod. The reissue of Khoury’s beloved work late last month coincided with the Town of Manteo’s 125th Anniversary. Through the book, a new generation of readers can now explore the vibrant history of Manteo, depicted through hundreds of old photographs illustrating the town's origins and its people.
This event offers a unique opportunity for locals and visitors alike to connect with the community's history and the author who brought it to life. This special event is free and open to the public. Join us in celebrating Manteo’s heritage, the preservation of its history, and the legacy of Manteo: A Roanoke Island Town.
