As part of the greater celebration of Anthracite Mining Heritage Month, on Thursday, January 30th at 7pm, the Luzerne County Historical Society will hold a lecture entitled "Jacob Cist: Pennsylvania Anthracite Pioneer". Hosted by LCHS Director of Operations and Programs Mark Riccetti Jr, the evening will feature information about the scientist, artist, and naturalist that was Jacob Cist, the man who was really the first to grap the marketing potential of Anthracite. The lecture will discuss Cist's early years in Philadelphia and the Lehigh Valley, through his marriage into the Hollenbacks, the War of 1812 and the fuel crisis, and finally to his marketing blitz in the early 1820s before his death.
The lecture will be held at the the LCHS Museum, 69 South Franklin Street, Wilkes-Barre PA 18701, in a gallery of Cist's various works, drawings, and patents.
