Thinking about getting on the water but not sure where to start? Our Introduction to Boating course is your launch point. Whether you’re dreaming of family lake days, coastal cruising, or just understanding the boat at the ramp, this class gives you the knowledge to boat safely, legally, and confidently.
You’ll learn:
The different types of boats — powerboats, sailboats, paddle craft, houseboats, and more
How boats are used for recreation, fishing, and family fun
The basics of outboards, inboards, jet drives, and power boating engines
Essential family boating fundamentals every new boater should know

Students are provided a course book to use during class at no charge. If you’d like your own copy to keep, materials are available for purchase from the Fayetteville Sail and Power Squadron for $25.
Whether you’re brand new or just want to be better prepared on the water, this course sets you up for a lifetime of safe, enjoyable boating. Seats fill fast—get registered and get boating!
Hunting and Fishing, Water-skiing, and River Boating: carrying hunting gear and weapons in a boat; fishing from a boat; water-skiing safety guidelines and hand signals; water-skiing with a PWC; navigating rivers, and other boating tips
This course satisfies NC Safe Boating requirement for anyone under 16 years of age and has a proctored test. Any students who pass the test with an 80% or higher will receive a certificate of completion and wallet card.
