Presenter, Jon Zirkle, director of Bushelcraft Farm, has been foraging for these fruits for many years and growing them in his backyard in Goshen since 2014. Born and raised in southern and central Indiana, he has a special connection to these trees and related family traditions, as well. Cost: free of charge, and do bring your lunch!
In this April Lunch & Learn class, attendees will learn an overview about:
American persimmon biology and seed saving
natural history of American persimmon, its ecological roles and ecosystem services
traditional uses of persimmon, how humans and wildlife enjoy eating its delicious fruits
preferred grow environment for American persimmon in our area and basic care
Jon’s reflections on growing American persimmon in Goshen, and mentorship he received from the late Jerry Lehman, a persimmon expert in Indiana (Terre Haute)
