Discover the story behind the People's Bicentennial Quilt, created in 1974 by a diverse group of women to present a more inclusive history of America. Historian and author Connie Young Yu will discuss the quilt's creation, the stories behind its 45 squares, and its continued relevance today. A reproduction of the quilt is currently on view in the Museum's exhibition, The Spirit of '76: Reflecting on America's Bicentennial.
Among her many works, Connie Young Yu is the author of Patchwork History: The People's Bicentennial Quilt. She received the 2025 Award of Excellence from the American Association for State and Local History for her work preserving Chinese American history.
Admission is $15 or free for Museum members. Registration is required at losaltoshistory.org/BicentennialQuilt.
