In 1892, an enthusiastic Jesuit Priest from Naples arrived in El Paso and immediately began a mission to create Catholic churches and educational institutions across the borderland. By the time he died, Reverend Carlos M. Pinto’s “zeal, vision, and energy” were so successful that he had founded 14 separate churches and seven schools in New Mexico, Texas, and Chihuahua. Learn more about the “Apostle of El Paso” as he was known by joining community historian Janine Young on August 20th at 6:00 pm. Ms. Young will “unfold the fascinating story of Father Pinto’s achievements” alongside the growth and development of El Paso’s religious communities during a period where many denominations were growing.
