How the Streets Got Their Names

El Paso’s streets hold more than traffic, they hold stories. From Titanic Avenue, named for the ill-fated ocean liner, to Kleinfeld Drive, honoring a local humanitarian, and even Mesa Street’s original life as Utah Street, each name preserves a slice of the city’s past. On October 22, the curator of the El Paso Mission Trail Association, Joseph Longo, will lead an image-rich journey through the history behind El Paso’s streets, uncovering the people, places, and events they commemorate. Join us to learn the true stories behind the names of more than two dozen El Paso byways.
This free event will take place at the Magoffin Home Visitor Center at 1117 Magoffin Avenue and will feature many historical images, articles, and resources. Light refreshments and beverages will be available as a fundraiser for the Casa Magoffin Compañeros beginning at 6 PM. The talk will start at 6:30 and will be in English, but the speaker and staff will be available to answer questions in Spanish.
