Meet up location: El Paso Museum of Archeology
Join us for a drive-and-stop tour exploring the geologic history of El Paso. We will begin at the El Paso Museum of Archaeology on Transmountain Road, make two stops along Transmountain to examine Precambrian and Paleozoic rock formations, visit the Great Unconformity at McKelligon Canyon and conclude or tour at Mt. Cristo Rey to discuss the formation of the Rio Grande Rift and its role in shaping the Franklin Mountains and surrounding landscape.
This tour is designed for anyone interested in learning how over a billion years of geologic history are recorded in the rocks of the El Paso area. We look forward to exploring El Paso's geologic story with you!
