Have you ever wondered what causes the variety of different landscape types and habitats in our area? Within a small geographical zone, we have everything from chalk grassland to acid sandy heaths, from river valley gravels to clay capped hills with woodlands.
The answer is in the underlying rocks, formed millions of years ago, and glacial deposits following the last Ice Age.
In this talk, Dan Bosence, Emeritus Professor of Geology at Royal Holloway University of London and an expert on sedimentology, will explain the origins of the rocks that form the landscape between Farnham and Alton, creating that wide diversity of habitats.
