Dive into talks on Solar PV systems, Energy Storage Systems, Generators, and EVSE at the Alternative Energy Sources event! CEUs available!
About this Event

As alternative energy technologies rapidly expand across residential, commercial, and critical infrastructure, the need for consistent, code-compliant installation and informed emergency response has never been greater. This comprehensive training event is designed for electrical inspectors, building officials and inspectors, electrical contractors, and first responders who are responsible for evaluating, installing, or interacting with modern electrical systems.

This program features four in-depth, 2-hour courses covering key areas of today’s evolving energy landscape:

  • Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems – NEC Article 690
  • Energy Storage Systems (ESS)
  • Generators – NEC Article 445 & Building Code Integration
  • Electrical Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) – NEC Article 625

Become an IAEI Member today!

Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of current code requirements, emerging technologies, and safety considerations necessary to effectively work with and respond to alternative energy systems in the field.

Agenda

Article 690 Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems course

Info: The 2-hour Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems course covers the basic requirements for the installation of a PV system in NEC Article 690 Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems. The course covers the following topics; the different types of equipment that could be installed in the PV system, cold temperature adjustment for PV system voltage, Rapid Shutdown Systems, PV system and PV equipment disconnecting means, PV wiring, proper labeling, and PV system grounding requirements.

πŸ•‘: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Energy Storage Systems (ESS) Course Outline

Info: The 2-hour course on ESS covers the requirements across the NEC, NFPA 855, and UL 9540 Standard as it applies to the installation of an ESS. The product listing and installation requirements in UL 9540 are covered, as the NEC and NFPA 855 require these systems to be listed. In addition, the requirements of UL 9540A Thermal Runaway Testing and the review of UL 9540A Fire Test Reports are covered in detail. The course finishes with covering the NEC wiring requirements and the additional NFPA 855 related installation requirements for an ESS.

Article 445 Generators and NEC/Building Code Requirements

Info: The 2-hour course will cover the NEC requirements for generators in the 2023 NEC. Topics of discussion will be the UL 2200, UL 2201, and UL 2200A listing requirements in 445.2, generator conductor sizing requirements in 445.13, and the changes for generator disconnecting means in 445.18 and the new emergency shutdown requirements in 445.19. The generator requirements in Article 517, 700, 701, 702, and 708 will also be covered. The presentation will also cover the IBC Chapter 27 requirements for emergency generators, NFPA 110 requirements for generators, and the NFPA 37 requirements as well.

πŸ•‘: 03:00 PM - 05:00 PM
EVSE

Info: The Electrical Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) 2-hour course covers the past, present, and future of the EVSE industry. A deep dive of the requirements of Article 625 in the 2023 NEC and the 2026 NEC changes are covered, including listing requirements, construction requirements, branch circuit and feeder requirements, receptacle and disconnect requirements, and GFCI protection. The last topic discusses the installation and use of bi- directional EVSE power transfer to the utility grid and use as an optional standby system or interconnected power productions source.
